Households that are Above the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) Threshold

Select a Census Place
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicators shows the percentage of households that are above the asset limited, income constrained, employed (ALICE) threshold. These households have income above the ALICE threshold and the Federal Poverty Level, and are able to afford the basic costs of living.
Numerator = Total estimate of households who had income in the past 12 months that was above the ALICE threshold
Denominator = Total households with poverty status determined

Why is this important?

ALICE households represent men and women of all ages and races who are working but unable to afford the basic necessities of housing, food, child care, health care, and transportation due to the lack of jobs that can support basic necessities and increases in the basic cost of living. The poverty threshold similarly represents households with men and women of all ages and races who are living below the Federal Poverty Level. Households above the ALICE threshold are both not in poverty and have income above the basic  cost of living.
